Hatha yoga for beginners
Learn the poses safely in live online classes

What is hatha yoga?
Hatha yoga is a slow style of yoga in which poses (asanas) are held longer, with close attention to breathing and correct body alignment. Because of its calm pace, hatha yoga is considered the best start for beginners and for people returning after a break: you have time to feel every movement and learn safe technique.
- For: beginners and people returning after a break
- Group: Tuesday 18:30 (Lithuanian time), 4–8 people
- Length: 60 min
- Class flow: settling in → breathing → asanas → breathing and meditation
- Price: €12 in a group, €55 private
- Teacher: Aurimas Savickas
Yoga for beginners: why is it so hard to start?
- 01Yoga seems to be for flexible people, not for you.
- 02There are countless yoga videos, but you don't know which one to start with.
- 03You're afraid of doing a pose wrong and getting hurt.
- 04It feels awkward to go to a yoga studio where everyone already knows what to do and you don't yet.
So the start gets put off for months – yet all you need is a mat, a phone with a camera and an hour.
It's not you – it's starting without a teacher: a recording can't see how you move, so no one corrects you or offers an easier version.
"A slow pace, but your body works": why hatha yoga suits beginners
Hatha yoga is a calm, mindful yoga practice that builds strength, improves flexibility and helps you find inner calm.
In my hatha yoga classes, four principles help beginners:
The Tuesday group is for beginners and returners, with up to eight people. Want my full attention? Choose a private session. Real change happens when you feel calm and safe – not rushed or pushed.
Picture this: a few weeks from now you join class already knowing the poses, and the ones that felt hard at first now feel steady.

A calm pace
You hold each pose for longer and have time to feel your body working.
The same set of poses
The set of poses is the same every time, so you learn it within a few weeks.
A teacher who sees you
I see how you move and correct you with cues and demonstrations.
An easier variation
If a pose is too hard, I offer you an easier version.
All your first class needs is a mat and an hour – €12 in a group, €55 for a private session.

Settling in
The class starts by settling in: you leave the day's worries behind and set a goal for this class. That makes it easier to focus on your body.
Breathing
Breathing exercises (pranayama) slow things down, so you move into the poses more calmly. They're part of every hatha class.
Asanas – the poses
The core postures at a slow pace. I show, explain and correct, and you swap a pose that's too hard for an easier variation – so you work safely.
Breathing and meditation
You finish with breathing and meditation – calmly, without rushing. It's part of every hatha class, not an extra.
Every class is live on Google Meet, not a recording. A camera is required – that's how I see how you move and correct you.
Practising safely as a beginner
- Yoga isn't medical treatment and doesn't replace your doctor or physiotherapist.
- If you're pregnant, have had recent surgery or an injury, or have high blood pressure, a heart condition, glaucoma, epilepsy, osteoporosis or another long-term condition, check with your doctor before you start.
- Mention any injury, health condition or pregnancy in your booking message – I'll suggest suitable variations. In a group, there's no need to mention it in front of others.
- Listen to your body: a stretch should be felt, never painful. If you feel pain, dizziness or shortness of breath, stop and tell me. If symptoms don't settle, seek medical help.
- If in doubt, choose the easier variation.
Is hatha yoga right for beginners?
Works for you if…
- you're new to yoga or coming back after a break;
- you'd like a calm pace and postures you'll know within a few weeks;
- you want a teacher to see how you move and correct you;
- you want to practise at home, but not alone with a video.
Not ideal if…
- you want a fast pace and more strength work – you'll prefer vinyasa yoga
- you're after recordings to follow at any hour – every class is live. If the group time doesn't suit you, choose a private session
“Professional yoga and fitness trainer. Workouts are effective and balanced. He explains exercises clearly, motivates and shares useful healthy nutrition tips. Great atmosphere and tangible results. Recommended!”
“Aurimas is a great coach who really cares about you and tries his best to achieve results together with you!”
“We started out with bodyweight moves and gradually worked our way up to free weights, which was a really smooth progression. He's super knowledgeable about posture and technique, and he even helped me get my nutrition on track with some solid advice. What I appreciated most was how he built a schedule that actually worked with my lifestyle rather than just giving me a generic plan.”
A calm pace, and postures you'll know within a few weeks.

Your time is reserved once payment is received. Mention any injury, health condition or pregnancy in your booking message – privately, not in front of the group.
Set up your space
On the day
A mat, comfortable clothes, room to stretch out and a phone or laptop with a camera. Place it so your whole mat is in view: a camera is required, because I see how you move and correct you.
Your first class
60 minutes, live on Google Meet
Join a few minutes early to check your sound and camera. I show and explain the poses, and you work as far as your body allows.
The poses become familiar
Within a few weeks
The set of poses stays the same, so within a few weeks you'll know it and feel the poses getting easier. I recommend practising twice a week.
What to expect in your first class: nobody expects you to know anything, and you can rest at any time. Class begins with settling in and breathing, and ends with breathing and a short meditation.

What is hatha yoga?
Hatha yoga is a style of yoga based on body poses (asanas) and breathing. Today "hatha" usually means slower classes: poses are held longer, with rests in between. The calm pace lets you feel your body and learn safe alignment, which makes hatha yoga the easiest start for beginners. My hatha class lasts 60 minutes: settling in, breathing, poses, and breathing and meditation at the end.
Hatha yoga for beginners: your questions
No, flexibility isn't a condition for starting. Many beginners feel stiff at first but notice their flexibility improving as they practise. Every pose has an easier version, and props such as a book or a strap help when mobility is limited.
A group hatha yoga class costs €12, or from €8.75 per class with a membership (€40, €70 or €110 a month). A private class is €55; a monthly plan is €200 (4 classes) or €360 (8 classes).
Usually after 3–4 weeks. The set of poses stays the same, so you learn it within a few weeks, and poses that seemed hard at first start to feel easy. Many people feel calmer after the very first class.
That's normal. In the group everyone works at their own pace, and I offer an easier version. You can rest in child's pose at any time – no one expects you to know everything straight away.
Yes, hatha yoga is exactly the right start. We adapt the poses to your mobility, and you choose the pace. If you have back conditions or injuries, talk to your doctor first and mention it in your booking message.
Only after talking to your doctor. During pregnancy I recommend a private class, where I choose the poses for how you feel and your stage of pregnancy. You don't need to tell the whole group – just mention it in your booking message.
No. A membership runs for 30 days and renews monthly – you can cancel at any time. If you cancel a class at least 24 hours ahead, we move it to another time.
The Tuesday hatha group is in Lithuanian, and the Saturday class can also be in English if participants wish. Private hatha classes are in Lithuanian or English. At the moment all sessions take place online, on Google Meet. We plan in-person sessions in Kaunas in the future – if that interests you, get in touch and we'll let you know.
Hatha yoga combines poses with breathing and meditation, so it works not only on the muscles but also on tension and attention. Stretching is for flexibility, Pilates for deep-muscle strength, while hatha covers both and adds calm.
Once the poses feel familiar, you can add Thursday vinyasa yoga – it's more dynamic and builds stamina. When your practice is solid, advanced students can also move on to private ashtanga yoga.
